Winterizing the pool

In order to be able to use the pool for many years, we need to know how to prepare it for the winter period. We recommend that the pool remains half full of water. This is especially true when the bottom of the pool is below the maximum level of any groundwater. If the water in the pool is completely drained, there is a possibility that the pool will be carried away by the groundwater. Also, if the ground around the pool freezes, the pool walls can be damaged if there is no water in it.

If the pool is not protected by a cover, it is exposed to harsh weather conditions in winter. Leaves that fall into the pool can stain the PVC foil, and a sharp object can damage the inner lining.

Therefore, if the pool is left half full, all of the above dangers will be prevented.

We recommend the following for proper winterization of the pool:

  • Drain the water to below the inlet nozzles
  • Externally mounted filters, skimmers, countercurrent and spotlights should be dismantled and stored dry.
  • With built-in underwater spotlights, it should be taken into account that the water level is above or below them so that there is no pressure on the spotlight glass
  • Open the plugs of the sand filter and pump to drain the water from them
  • Open the top cover of the filter so that the sand can "breathe"
  • Leave all taps half open
  • Remove the pressure gauge
  • Add a winterizing agent to the remaining water in the pool, which prevents the formation of algae and lime deposits. Also, thanks to the agent, the foil is easier to clean in the spring. Dosage: 200 ml. per 10 m3 of water.
  • Attention: if the water in the pool is cloudy and has algae just before wintering, you should perform a shock disinfection and filter the water until it is clear. Otherwise, the liner will become dirty despite using a winterizing agent.
  • If you have purchased a winter cover for the pool, you can install it as well
