At first I would like to point out that this is not a DIY pool, which is available in large retail chains, we are talking about pools produced by a companies specialized in this field.
Depending on the model steel wall pools could be installed fully or partially in the ground and also above the ground. Choosing such a pool you will own a real pool on affordable price, which will serve you for many years. The life of such a pool is about 20 - 30 years, as you should change the inner PVC liner every 10 years. Prefabricated pools are offered in three shapes: round, oval and eight shaped.
Round and eight shaped pools could be installed entirely above the ground, partially or fully in the ground. Oval pools could be installed only in the ground. Steel wall pools have a flat bottom; this means that their depth could not vary for example from 1.20 to 1.50 m. The depth could be 1.20, 1.35 or 1.50 m. When you choose the pool depth, you should bear in mind that the water level is 10 cm below the upper pool edge. For example, if you choose 1.50 m depth, the water level will be 1.40 m.
Before you order the pool it is important to know some features that will save you future problems when using the pool. Unfortunately we have seen pools covered with ground because the owners are sick and tired from all the problems with the pool. The main reasons for the problems are the improper installation of the pool, the use of bad equipment and last, but not least the incorrect treatment and misleading information from the company who sells and installs you the pool.
That is why it is very important to be fully informed for all the questions about the choice and construction of the pool to enjoy it and feel always the pleasure of having it.
Prefabricated pools consist of steel wall, inner coating – special PVC liner, which serves also for pool waterproofing, upper rails for fixing the liner to the steel wall, profile rails in which we put the steel wall, sand filtration system, skimmer, main drain and inlet nozzles.
The inner PVC coating (liner) is very important element of the pool, because it plays a double part – on one hand it is the visible coating inside the pool, on other hand it serves as waterproofing of the pool. In principle the standard thickness of the liner for prefabricated pools is 0.60 mm. There are options to choose thicker liner – 0.80 mm. The liner is cold-resistant and it is protected against UV rays.
The elasticity of the pool liner is very important; because it depends on it how long the liner will last. When the liner loses its elasticity, it begins to split and falls apart for a short time. To prevent premature aging, you have to install under layer between the liner and the concrete base, which protects the liner from direct contact with the concrete. This under layer has to be made only of geotextile, which won’t stain the liner. Avoid using fitted carpet or other similar materials, because they will stain the liner.
The pattern of the upper rail can save you or cause you a lot of headaches when it is time to change the pool liner. There are two upper rail models: on one model, the rail squeezes the liner on top and on the other model that is preferred, the rail has a lateral groove in which the liner is mounted. Why am I explaining this? When the pool has a coping stone, it is mounted on the upper rail. When you have to change the liner, if the rail is from the first model, you will have to break the stone to remove the old liner, and in the second model you just unplug the liner from the side groove and attach the new one without breaking the board. So always ask the pool supplier what type the upper handrail is.
Selecting a filter system pump is another important point in the process of purchasing a pool. We recommend the pump to be self-priming, which means that it is placed on the surface of the ground and higher than the water in the pool, it will be able to filter the water. If the pump is not self-priming, then it must be made a shaft that is below the water level to allow the pool water to go to the pump on its own. The disadvantage of the shafts is that they are often flooded by groundwater and the service of the filter system is more uncomfortable.
