Prefabricated oval pool

Installation of a prefabricated oval pool
Even though it seems easy, the installation of an oval prefabricated in-ground pool requires that you take into account some features.

A trench is made 1 m larger than the dimensions of the pool. For example, if the pool is 8 x 4 m, the trench should be 9 x 5 m. The depth of the trench depends on the depth of the pool, and a 20 cm concrete slab should be provided. Also, consider how much the pool will appear above the surface. It is good to have 10 - 15 cm. This way, the pool will get dirty less and will stand out better.

Then, reinforcement is placed, the siphon is placed and pipes for the siphon are laid. Then a concrete slab with a thickness of 20 cm is cast. After the bottom of the pool has been cast, two parallel walls are built on the straight part. We recommend that the walls be built from hollow concrete blocks, into which reinforcement is placed and filled with concrete. The walls must be perfectly smooth, flat and parallel to each other. If these conditions are not met, the pool will warp. Fiberboard can also be laid on the inside of the walls.

After preparing the terrain in this way, you can begin assembling the pool.

First, the bottom strip is placed, into which the metal wall of the pool is attached. Then you start stretching the metal wall, which is inserted into a specially made hole in the bottom strip. After the pool wall is installed, the holes for the skimmer, nozzles, and spotlights are cut out and a geotextile pad is laid, which protects the foil from the concrete and preserves its elasticity.

Now you can also place the upper profile, to which the PVC is attached - the foil or liner as it is also called. There are two types of foil attachment – in the first type, the profile clamps the foil, and in the second type, the foil is attached to the side of the profile. The advantage of the second type is that when it is time to change the foil, you do not need to remove the upper profile to change the foil. Also, if the pool has a curb stone, you do not need to break it as is necessary when the pool has the first type of profile.

The foil arrives pre-cut according to the shape of the pool. It is attached to the upper profile, after which the pool is filled with 10 cm of water and the foil is stretched along the bottom. Then, the pool is waited for to fill with another 30 cm to stretch the foil along the walls. Now, the skimmer, nozzles, and spotlights are installed.

Now is the time to install the sand filter system and connect it to the pool.

After the pool has been installed, it must be filled with water as quickly as possible. Do not leave it empty overnight, as there is a risk that a sudden gust of wind could damage the metal structure.

Before filling the pool with water, you must backfill with soil behind the masonry walls, as they hold the pool in place. Otherwise, they will collapse under the pressure of the water.

When the pool is half-filled with water, you can start backfilling behind the ovals of the pool. The backfill is made of drier concrete, which forms a belt around the pool and prevents the pool wall from bending in the event of subsidence of the soil. It is a good idea to put insulation, such as fiberboard, between the pool wall and the backfill. The fiberboard protects and insulates the metal wall of the pool from the soil.

When backfilling is done, it is important to know that the water level in the pool should always be 20-30 cm higher than the level of the backfill. Otherwise, the metal wall of the pool will warp and be damaged.

Once the backfill is done, the pool installation is complete.
